Yoga Therapy
Somatic Yoga Therapy works at the intersection of yoga and mental health. It is an integrative practice working with body, mind and heart (soul). I will use my knowledge from various healing practices to meet you where you are and guide you through any stuck emotions to create space for healing and overall well being. Most of us are living with the effects of chronic stress and burnout, we will end each session with opportunities for deep rest, relaxation and rejuvination. When we practice conscious rest, the body returns to homeostasis which is where the body can return to its proper function, to heal and make us feel safe.
Trauma-informed yoga and mindfulness are somatic tools for health and healing that invite practitioners into embodied awareness. Embodied awareness in a controlled environment, like a specialized group setting, provides a safe and supportive space to explore bodily sensations. Through somatic yoga, we will learn how our bodies, breath and minds respond to stress and tension, where emotions are stored and how to acknowledge them and their initial purpose in protecting us from danger. Our bodies and minds will stay in hyperarousal until we give them a safe place to release and settle down. We will practice a combination of movement, breathwork, conscious rest and discussion. This type of community support can aid in the effects of burnout, compassion fatigue, vicarious trauma, ptsd, anxiety, depression and more.. Each practitioner will walk away with their own tool kit of self care practices that will help make their work feel more sustainable, have a greater work-life balance, and feel a closer connection to their community.
